Pin and Twist Side Chignon

In this heatwave I do my best to keep my hair up and off of my body.  So here is a side chignon bun that I did while my hair was wet.  You comb it to the side as if you are going to do an over the shoulder pony tail.  Then you start twisting, and when it starts to curl up by itself, you nudge it into a spiral, pinning as you go.  It only takes me about 4 bobby pins to hold it.  It's very secure. I could have danced in it all day. I personally find it much easier to pin my hair up when it's wet.

Hair For Swimming

Yesterday I was going swimming and wanted my hair both up and down at the same time. So I compromised and went with braids.

Chignon Bun Behind Ear

It's hot today and after going out shopping not once, but twice, I was ready for a cooler way to wear my waist length hair.  So I shampooed it, and while it was wet, I combed it over my shoulder as if I was going to do my usual over the shoulder braid.  But instead of braiding it, I twisted it and coiled it into a chignon just behind my ear. It sits there quite comfortably and won't get in my way if I have to lean back in a car or on a couch. I secured it with four dark bobby pins. It's a bit loose and messy. If I was going to wear it for swimming or ballet, I'd make it tighter. My flyaway hair is a lot easier to style when it's wet, but do what works best for you.

Long Hair With a Scarf

The sun is hard on your hair and will fade your dye if you have dyed hair. It's handy to have a favorite scarf ready anytime you have to dash outdoors.
This photo was taken today. Look how bright and sunny it is on New Year's Day in southern CA.  Our hair needs UV protection every day of the year, even in winter.
